Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA is the perfect location for a day out! The street is named after Abbot Kinney, a developer, who in the 1890s built up the area to look like his idea of Venice in America (thanks Wikipedia!). Today, Abbot Kinney Blvd is home to a number of coffee shops, mixed use buildings, art studios, street art, food vendors, and so many shops. It’s a bustling tourist destination with plenty of things to do and people to see. I would definitely take a friend there for a day of photography (as we did) or the girls for a fun day of shopping (pro tip: set a budget, this place can get pricey).
Huset, a shop of Scandinavian wares for your home or office. Can you put a price on childhood memories? Hell, yes you can, if they come on amazing tableware based on Tove Jansson’s Moomin illustrations. I was nearly overwhelmed with their selection of tea towels and the fact that they have an online shop with so many gorgeous well designed items does not help my budget.
Burro, a shop full of cards and unique gifts that you’ll be dying to give to your friends and family but also secretly wanting to keep everything for yourself. I bought a ton of birthday cards and super secret birthday presents. I wished I picked up their tea leaf reading kit, but for now it’s going on my wishlist.
If you’ve been there, let me know how you liked it or any shops I may have missed. Where should I go next?
